Wow, where is this place? I find the pic of the woman holding the child, while surrounded by complete chaos quite interesting.

Magaly - The Paradox is an old warehouse in Baltimore that was converted into a concert/club venue. The mother and child piece is probably the most interesting art in the place. While the mother-and-child theme is found in art from all countries, cultures, times, etc., this piece has a surreal quality that makes it distinct. I looked up "Psalm 23:4" (these words appear on the bottom, left of the painting) and it goes like this:

Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

Seems fitting for the relationship between mother and child and for the artwork.

I just got chills! I'm going to Bethesda in October. I'm might have to go and check it out. Thanks for telling me more about it ;)

Oh man—those pix are insane! And you're right: the update on the Madonna is fresh and surreal... .I love it. Any idea who actually painted the art?

Haunting.

I've heard in sermons that when walking in that part of the world, there are these valleys with hills rising on either side. From there the enemies can hid and can consume you in the valley. He (David) is praying to God that no matter what happens, whether good or bad, that He is still God. Cool imagery. And I believe we get a glimpse (ideally) of this love and mercy through the protection we get from our parents.

And thanks for visiting me on MyExurbia!
