It's like Disneyland excpet the men are wearing penguin suits instead of mouse costumes

My daily commute is like a triathlon. It involves a five mile drive to a train station, a 50 minute train ride and a 1.5 mile walk. The walking part of the rat "race" is by far the most enjoyable. I put on my headphones, sip my coffee, saunter down the sidewalk, and this is what I see:

Im jealous. Wish my commute was as enjoyable...Im just stuck on an interstate, with tons of construction, trying to find a decent radio station and not get run over by semi's!

I don't know if I'd call my "commute" enjoyable....the train breaks down a lot, my station is in the 'hood, and the total time for my commute is an hour and 45 minutes--each way!

It is a great walk from Union Station to my office though...

I have never been a great fan of commuting too much while going for work, i have been lucky in that sense so far. But ya it just wear you down, you can utilise that time in doing so many extra things...spending 3 hrs almost a day is not a joke !

But anyways nice pics!

Three hours + a day of commuting certainly is no joke! For me, it's worth it because living in Baltimore is so much cheaper than living in DC. In Baltimore, I was able to buy a freshly renovated rowhome with a yard. If I lived in D.C., I'd be splitting rent with five roommates and still be broke.

So it's definitely not a fun commute the whole way, but it sure does look interesting. And a good way to get walking in. Do you do the same routine in the winter? I'm already imagining myself (or just overthinking) living there slipping and sliding on ice on my way to work!

my, that brings back memories! I haven't been to DC since Christmas '96! Oh my, I hadn't realised it's been that long! Time I went back and saw whatever's new at the Smithsonian (my favourite museum in the whole wide world, lol!)

at least that commute doesn't involve you being behind the wheel of a car... which means you can read, listen to music etc...

Lizzi -- Yes, I hike it year-round. It's actually worse in the summer than in the winter. D.C. summers are hot and humid. Muggy. Luckily we don't get too much ice and snow in the winter--just a few times a year.

CrazyChris -- Come to D.C.! I have all the inside scoop on Smithsonian museums and maybe could even take you "behind the scenes."

That offer stands for you too Lizzi!

Great idea.

I did a "planes trains and automobiles" commute for awhile. 1.75 hrs each way. I would have enjoyed it a lot more had I thought to photograph it.
